Reducing distracted driving in Texas with Allie’s Way Act

On Behalf of | May 14, 2023 | PERSONAL INJURY (PLAINTIFF) - Personal Injury

When a driver is focusing on anything other than the task at hand, he or she is needlessly increasing the chance of a car accident. Distracted driving in any form is reckless and negligent, and it often puts innocent people in harm’s way. Allie’s Way Act is an initiative designed to raise awareness about the dangers of distraction and reduce the chance that drivers will engage in this dangerous behavior.

Details of Allie’s Way Act

Allie’s Way Act is legislation inspired by Allie White. This 2-year-old was struck and killed by a distracted driver, and her parents have dedicated their lives to raising awareness and fighting distraction on Texas roads. If Allie’s Way Act, also called Senate Bill 41, passes, it will require drivers to put their phones down, only using them with a hands-free function.

In addition to Allie’s Way Act, there is another companion piece of legislation under consideration by lawmakers that would also help to fight distraction. However, both bills have stalled, and it is not clear if they will move forward. Allie’s parents have resolved to continue their fight until these distracted driving laws pass.
