One person passed away in a car crash in Texas. Three others suffered injuries in the four-car accident. Police arrested a man for allegedly causing the accident due to drinking and driving.

Events leading up to the motor vehicle crash

The recent car accident took place in West El Paso at around 7:36 p.m. on a Saturday. Police reported that three cars were stopped at a traffic light. A 50-year-old man then reportedly crashed into one of the cars.

A 72-year-old woman riding in the car that was hit suffered critical injuries and passed away because of the crash. The driver of that car, 73 years old, survived the accident. However, he also suffered injuries. Another male driver, 25 years old, and the 50-year-old driver who allegedly caused the wreck also suffered injuries in the accident. The man who police said caused the crash was charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the accident.

Legal recourse

The surviving loved ones of the woman who died in the Texas accident appear to have grounds to file a wrongful death claim against the driver believed responsible for the crash. Likewise, the two other injured drivers might file personal injury claims against him, seeking reimbursement for damages incurred due to the accident. If the accused man is convicted in criminal court, proof of the conviction may be offered as evidence of negligence in a related civil court proceeding. Successfully navigated claims might lead to monetary damage awards to cover losses stemming from the accident, such as burial costs and hospital bills.
